Dunwoody residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous materials at an upcoming recycling event hosted by the City of Dunwoody. Scheduled for September 13, the Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event provides a free, organized way to clear out garages and closets of items not suitable for regular trash collection. Open exclusively to Dunwoody residents, the event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Dunwoody City Hall, located at 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road, according to a statement from the city's official website.
Registration is required, and residents can reserve a drop-off time through the city’s website. The event is intended to support safe and environmentally responsible disposal of hazardous materials. During the previous event, which saw participation from 473 residents, a wide range of items were collected for recycling, including approximately 16,500 pounds of latex paint and over 1,000 pounds of motor oil.
A wide variety of items will be accepted at the event, including different types of paint, automotive fluids, and household cleaners. However, certain materials will not be accepted, such as agricultural and biomedical waste, explosives, and gases like refrigerants.
Participants seeking details on what can and cannot be dropped off are encouraged to review the official list of accepted and prohibited materials. Proof of Dunwoody residency is required to participate, and commercial quantities will not be accepted.
